Parenting Scenarios :

Communication Skills

Communication with your children is easy when they are following the rules you have set and are behaving well, but when their behavior goes against what you have asked them to do, you find that your communication skills as a parent are put to the test. You haven’t been passing that test lately and find yourself yelling at the children. It’s one thing for your children to be out of control, but when you feel that way, you know it is time for a change.

You know you’ve been yelling too much at your children lately. You want to have a more pleasant relationship with them. Write about your plans for improvement in the space provided. How will you react the next time when your children need correcting? How will your voice sound? What type of language will you use? What can you do to encourage your children to follow the rules of your home so that you will be more likely to speak calmly and positively to them? What kind of commitment are you willing to make to your children about your behavior?
