Your child’s social development is important to you. You recognize the value of having friends, both for enjoyment and for avoiding asocial or anti-social behavior. You are beginning to be concerned about your daughter’s lack of social skills.

Your 11-year-old daughter is painfully shy. She has trouble making and keeping friends because she doesn’t want to be part of a group. She prefers to have one friend at a time, but she wears them out with her need to keep them from becoming friendly with others. She is not involved in any extracurricular activities.
