Chapter 17: Technology in the Workplace

Personal Academic and Career Portfolio Help

Showcasing Technology Skills

This section of your Personal Academic and Career Portfolio is your technology showcase. Use it to show what you can do with technology and to gather resources that can help you develop your skills further. Target the pieces in your portfolio to the career or career cluster that interests you. One particularly good way to show your mastery of technology is to use a variety of technologies to present your résumé, cover letter, and list of references. For example, you might use page layout software or an HTML editing tool to format your résumé as a printed piece or a Web page. You might also create a chart using spreadsheet software that lists your proficiency level at a wide range of business software.

As your experience with technology increases, update the information in the "Technology Skills" section of your Portfolio. Take this section with you when you fill out job applications. You might also attach some of your technology showcase to your résumé, especially if you are applying for a job that requires the use of technology.
