Writer's Choice Grade 6

Unit 1: Personal Writing

Overview

How do you express yourself? Do you dance or sing or draw? Do you express yourself through writing? Writing about your thoughts, feelings, and actions is called personal writing.

Examples of personal writing include:
  • journals (or diaries)
  • learning logs
  • friendly letters
  • responses to poetry
Some forms of personal writing are meant to be shared (for example, a letter to a friend). Other forms are meant to be private (for example, a journal).

In a journal, you can write a little bit every day or once a week. You can write about something that happened to you or something you heard about. Writing in a journal can help you become a better writer. You may find that the more you write, the more confidence you will have as a writer.
