Introduction
Students have read about keeping a journal. In this lesson, they will analyze a diary kept by a 10-year-old girl during the Civil War.

Lesson Description
Students will read selected passages from Carrie Berry's diary and then will answer questions.

Instructional Objectives

  1. Students will be able to read and interpret passages from a Civil War diary.
  2. Students will be able to draw conclusions about why personal writing can be important to historians.

  1. Because of the war, Carrie's family had less food and money than usual.
