Succeeding in the World of Work

Chapter 9: Workplace Ethics

Personal Academic and Career Portfolio Help

Adding Your Ethics Information

Begin the "Ethics" section of your Personal and Academic Career Portfolio by writing a statement of your own ethics—the principles of conduct that govern your personal behavior. Based on this statement, look for companies whose products, services, business practices, environmental and legal record, and treatment of employees and customers match your ethical standards.

You can find admirable companies by considering your own experiences and those of family and friends and by doing research using print and Internet resources. Consider companies' involvement in their community, the work environment they create for their employees, and any other factors that are important to you. Focus on companies in your chosen career field. Note the resources you used to find your information.

Describe how you would document unethical behavior in the workplace and how you would feel most comfortable reporting it. Also consider whom you would consult for advice about ethical questions and whom you see as role models of ethics in your chosen career field.
