Chapter 12: Workplace Legal Matters

Personal Academic and Career Portfolio Help

Legal Resources

Document the different ways to resolve a dispute—including arbitration, mediation, and the civil and criminal courts. For each, research locally available resources, such as sources of legal help (including low-cost options), sources of information on local attorneys, mediators, and arbitrators, and other legal assistance services. Also note the contact information of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which has both national and district offices.

If you will join a union, list the legal services the union offers and whom to contact for legal help. You may also want to add information on your local small claims court, including the basic steps in filing a claim and where to get help and further information.

Revise this section of your portfolio regularly to keep it up to date and to add new information you have found.
