Chapter 16: Understanding and Using Public Relations

Introduction
Chapter 16 is designed to give students information about how to use journalistic abilities to develop public relations skills. In this lesson students will review concepts and terms related to public relations.

Lesson Description
Students will review public relations by completing a memory matching activity. When they click on a card, a term or its definition will appear. Students then attempt to find the matching card. When a match is found, the two matching cards are removed from the playing field.

  1. Students will recall the guidelines for writing news releases.

  2. Students will recall the elements of a public relations model.

  3. Students will recall concepts and terms from the chapter.

news release: information about an organization provided to the news media by that organization
embargo: to request delay of a news story or release until a specified date and time
marketing communications: helping companies sell their products more effectively
action plan: delineates how you will communicate your messages to your desired audience
