Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water are nutrients. They work together to give you energy, build and repair your body, and keep your body processes running smoothly. Some foods are especially good sources of certain nutrients. Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins provide the energy needed for body processes and physical activity. Your body needs enough of each nutrient for health and growth. Supplements used appropriately can provide needed nutrients for people in special circumstances.
