Student Web Activities: Lesson 5: Taking Action Against Tobacco

Introduction

More and more teens are realizing that smoking can be a deadly habit. Many young people are choosing not to smoke and they are organizing campaigns to teach others about the dangers of smoking. At the Web site below, you will hear what youth advocates have to say about tobacco and learn what you can do to encourage other teens not to smoke.

Instructions

  • Start at the Getting Started page of the Kick Butts Day! Web site.
  • Read through the page then click on “Tobacco 101” on the left side of the page.
  • Read through each of the eight points, taking notes as you go.
  • When you are done, answer the questions below.
  • Finally, using the information provided on the Web site, draft an e-mail message entitled, “The Top Ten Reasons I Choose Not to Smoke” that you can your friends can sign and email to other teens.
