In Chapter 1, you learned how to collect information about yourself so that you can find a career in which you can be happy and successful. You also learned to see the connection between who you are and your career choices.

You investigated your own interests and values. You learned that your interests are expressed by how you spend your time, what you talk about with friends, what you read, what you watch on television, and what you dream about. You discovered that values, such as responsibility, compassion, and achievement, help people make decisions, including career decisions. You learned the difference between job-specific skills and transferable skills. You also learned to identify your skills and aptitudes and to discover how skills and aptitudes affect career choices. Finally, you considered your own personality and learned about the eight types of learning styles.
