Exploring CareersGuide to Good HealthIn January 2005, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005
was released. The publication is a joint effort of the Department of Health
and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The Dietary Guidelines give science-based advice on food and physical
activity choices for health. To see the full 80-page Dietary Guidelines report,

and milk products;
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts; and
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium),
and added sugars.
MyPyramid In April 2005, the USDA unveiled MyPyramid, a new symbol and interactive food
guidance system. MyPyramid replaced the Food Guide Pyramid introduced in 1992.
It is part of an overall food guidance system that emphasizes the need for a
more individualized approach to improving diet and lifestyle The recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines and in MyPyramid are for the
general public over 2 years of age. MyPyramid is not a therapeutic diet for
any specific health condition. Individuals with a chronic health condition should
consult with a health care provider to determine what dietary pattern is appropriate
for them. To view the revised Food Guide Pyramid and see how it relates to you click

an individual should eat for health. The amounts to eat are based on a person’s
