New York Science Grade 7Unit 2:
Interactions Between Matter and EnergyPeriodic Table Wall MuralProject Type: Technology Have students research an assigned element from the periodic table. Have them present its symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, and name in a 1½-inch by 2½-inch card. On a second card, have students write the electron configuration, state of matter at room temperature, and whether it is synthetic or man-made. The class may display their cards on a wall mural, or class sets may be distributed for a periodic review game. Alternate Procedure:
Have the students put the elements symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, and name on a 10 inch by 10 inch card, and on the back have students write the electron configuration, state of matter at room temperature, and whether it is synthetic or man-made. Then, hang the card from the ceiling. Resources:
Use these web sites to help students find and identify elements from the periodic table. If students do their own research on the Internet make sure approve the sites they are visiting.
