Teen Health Course 2Chapter 6:
Building Healthy RelationshipsParent Letters - EnglishParent Letter and Activities
For use with Chapter 6 Dear Parent or Guardian,
We are now studying the topic of social health, including family relationships.
Since good communication is the cornerstone of any relationship, students
begin by identifying and applying effective communication skills. Some
questions your teen will consider as we discuss this topic are: How
does verbal communication differ from nonverbal communication? How can
I be an effective speaker and listener? How do members of a family nurture
each other? How can I recognize negative peer pressure and deal with it?
What are the benefits from abstaining from sexual activity, tobacco, alcohol,
and other drugs?
To support and extend our classroom work, please set aside some time during
the next few weeks to complete one or more of the following activities with
your teen: - Role play good communication with your child. Choose an issue and
have an effective communication, modeling good speaking and listening skills.
- Members
of families usually play several different roles. Identify the roles each
of you has within the family. Discuss how each of you fulfills that role.
Discuss other families you know well. Do the roles those family members
play differ from those in your family?
Of course, feel free to engage in other
activities you think will promote the development of better relationships
with friends and family. Your activities will be a welcome addition to our
efforts here. As always, do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
Sincerely,
Health Teacher
