Teen Health Course 2Chapter 2:
Taking Charge of Your HealthParent Letters - EnglishParent Letter and Activities
For use with Chapter 2 Dear Parent or Guardian,
Your student’s health class is currently studying taking charge of
our health. Students are learning skills they need to achieve, maintain,
and protect their good health. The topics include making health decisions,
setting and reaching goals, and building good character.
Questions your child will consider include: What are the six steps to
good decision making? What is included in a goal-setting plan? How do setting
and achieving goals help us? What is good character? How do we learn good
character? What are six traits that we see in people with good character? With
your help, your student will explore these topics with confidence and find
answers that will provide information for making healthful choices. Your
participation in the exploration of this material is vital.
To support and extend our classroom work, please set aside some time during
the next few weeks to complete one or more of the following activities with
your child. - Discuss a decision made by a character in a book, play, or television
program that you and your teen are familiar with. What were the consequences
of the decision?
- Tell your teen about an experience you had in setting and
achieving a goal. Describe the process you used in planning your strategy.
- Brainstorm a list of people you and your teen know who have shown the
character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness,
caring, and citizenship. Discuss the ways that both of you could be role
models for those traits to the people in your home or community.
Any other activities you
believe will help your teen to develop the skills needed to be healthy, that
will improve his or her decision-making and goal-setting skills, and that
will help develop good character will be a welcome addition to our efforts
here. Thank you for supporting our classroom work. As always, please feel
free to contact me.
Sincerely,
