Chapter 26: Fruit

Chapter Summaries

Fruit, which makes up MyPyramid's Fruit Group, is part of a healthful eating plan. Different fruits and fruit juices add color, flavor, nutrition, and interest to meals and snacks. Fruit gets its color from pigments. The natural color can change as it is prepared and cooked. Fruit is sold fresh, frozen, canned, dried, and as juice. When buying fresh fruit, look for signs of ripeness and quality. Fruit retains nutrients, flavor, and quality when stored and prepared properly. Fresh fruits can be washed and eaten raw or cooked using many methods.
