The Dietary Guidelines for Americans provide advice about healthful eating and active living. Get the most nutrition for your calories by eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods. Focus on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat or fat-free dairy foods, and lean protein. Keep active. Achieve or maintain your appropriate weight and stay healthy. Know the limits on fats, especially saturated fat and trans fats and cholesterol. Limit your consumption of foods high in added sugars and sodium. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Keep food safe to eat.
