Food goes through many steps before it gets to the table, including production, processing, distribution, marketing, and retailing. Supply and demand, as well as the cost to produce and distribute food, affect food prices. Technological advances in producing, processing, preserving, and packaging food have led to a safer, more appealing, and more healthful food supply. The government, the food industry, and consumers are responsible for keeping the food supply safe. Feeding the world population is a global problem, with complex challenges,and complex solutions.
