Tone is an author’s attitude toward his or her subject matter or audience. A writer’s tone can convey a variety of attitudes, such as sympathy, amusement, or superiority. How would you describe the tone of “A Shocking Accident”? For instance, what is Greene’s attitude toward the way Jerome’s father died? Write a brief essay analyzing the tone of the story.
