The Darkling Thrush

The speaker of this poem, seeing only desolation in the world around him, imagines the song of the thrush as an expression of hope. Have you ever had the experience of feeling sad or hopeless, only to be cheered up suddenly by an unexpected event or encounter? If not, what might help you regain your contentment when you’re feeling down? Think about your answers to these questions. Then write a poem or song about a hopeful experience. Use vivid, descriptive language to bring this experience to life.
