Using a Financial Planner

Financial planners are people who are trained to offer financial help and advice. They may have credentials, such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered financial consultant (ChFC). You will need to investigate financial planners to find the one who is right for you.

Make a List  Use the following information to make a chart of services offered by a financial planner. Add to the list as you gain more knowledge of financial planners.

  • Help you assess your current financial situation
  • Discuss your financial goals
  • Recommend investment opportunities
  • Provide, and discuss with you, a written plan for your financial future
  • Help you keep track of your financial goals and progress toward those goals
  • Guide you to other financial experts and services as called for
