Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction
Students have read “Vocabulary of Diplomacy” and completed three exercises to learn the following new vocabulary words: appease, arbitration, attaché, conciliatory, consulate, entente, placate, propitious, protocol, and proxy.  In this lesson, they will test and solidify their comprehension with a fun activity.

Lesson Description
Students will play concentration, using all of the above vocabulary.

Instructional Objectives
Students will be able to match word definitions with their respective vocabulary terms.

Attaché: member of a diplomatic staff
Proxy: person authorized to act for another
Appease: to satisfy or relieve
Placate: to calm the anger of; pacify
Consulate: the official headquarters of an ambassador
Arbitration: settling a dispute via the decision of a neutral party
Propitious: favorable; opportune; auspicious
Conciliatory: tending to win over or to overcome the hostility of
Protocol: customs and rules of behavior observed by diplomats
Entente: understanding between two or more countries
