Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction
Students have read “Vocabulary of Art and Music” and completed three exercises to learn the following new vocabulary terms: a cappella, abstract, aesthetic, avant-garde, cacophony, dissonance, dulcet, libretto, motif, and surrealistic.

Lesson Description
Students will answer True or False questions, using all of the above vocabulary.

Instructional Objectives
Students will be able to identify and use the vocabulary terms correctly in context.

False: Jimi Hendrix was known for his a cappella performances.
True: Abstract art does not depict realistic images.
True: Artists are generally aesthetic individuals.
False: And because of this, artists rarely make up the avant-garde.
False: Musicians strive to create cacophony.
False: And to create cacophony they must avoid dissonance.
True: And the best way to avoid dissonance is to be dulcet.
False: Musicians cannot memorize a piece of music's libretto.
True: But they certainly can memorize a piece of music's motif.
True: All this can cause some artists to lead very surrealistic lives.
