Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction
Students have read “The Roots -ec- and -eu-” and completed three exercises to learn the following new vocabulary words: appendectomy, eccentric, eclectic, eclipse, ecstatic, eulogize, euphemism, euphoria, euthanasia, and mastectomy. 

Lesson Description
Students will play concentration, using all of the above vocabulary.

Instructional Objectives
Students will be able to match word definitions with their respective vocabulary terms.

Appendectomy: surgical removal of the appendix
Eccentric: not conforming to normal or usual behavior; odd; peculiar
Eclectic: selected or made up of elements from various sources
Eclipse: hiding of one celestial body by another; to overshadow
Ecstatic: overwhelmed with intense joy or delight
Eulogize: to praise, in speech or writing, a deceased person
Euphemism: mild phrase that stands-in for an offensive one
Euphoria: a strong feeling of well-being or happiness
Euthanasia: painless killing of a terminally-ill person
Mastectomy: surgical removal of the breast
