After You Read

  1. Answers should include six of the following: paid health insurance; paid holidays, paid sick days, paid vacation days, discounts on goods their company sells, money to pay for the bus or train to work, paid dental insurance, money for postsecondary education, a pension plan.
  2. They may make low hourly wages because their tips and hourly wages will usually add up to the minimum wage.
  3. Health insurance and paid vacation usually start after a few months on the job. They don't start on the first day because employers want to be sure that workers who receive these benefits will not just use the benefits during the first few days and then quit the job right after using the benefit.
