Web Quest

Introduction
When you influence someone, you affect the way they act, what they say, or how they look. For example, if you volunteer, and your friends see the satisfaction you get from doing so, they may decide to volunteer too. Since you caused them to want to volunteer without actually telling them that they should, you have influenced your friends. People are not the only influences in our lives. Ideas, places, and events can all influence how a person acts. Influences can be big (your family influences your decision to get good grades at school) or small (your best friend looks nice in his new shirt, so you think about buying a similar one). No matter where we go or what we do, influences (both good and bad) will always shape our lives.

Directions
Start with the “Teen Scene” website, and read the winning essays written by teenage students. Next, go to the César Chávez link, and read the entire biography. Pay attention to the people and events that influenced César Chávez.

Think about the ideas presented on both of these websites. Who impacts the decisions you make? What events have caused you to make changes in your life? Draw two concept webs, one about a person and one about an event that has influenced your life.

Here's an example of a concept web for this exercise:
