About The Author Paul Phillips is Professor and Charles Forte Chair of Hotel Management at the School of Management at the University of Surrey, UK. Paul is also Director of the Centre for Hospitality Industry Performance Research and Stream Leader for the University of Surrey’s MSc programme in International Hotel Management. Previously, the author acted as Director of Research and Senior University Lecturer at the Surrey European Management School at the University of Surrey, UK. In addition to being a qualified accountant, PhD and MBA, Paul was a Senior IT Consultant with Price Waterhouse, prior to joining academia. During his academic career Professor Phillips has published more than 30 academic papers, and in addition to the new textbook, E-Business Strategy Text and Cases, he has also published Strategic Planning Systems in Tourism and Hospitality (1998). He has won two international awards for best papers, published in the 1997 volume of International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management and the 1998 volume of Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing (with Professor Luiz Moutinho). In addition, he has been guest editor of: the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management (1999), Management Decision (2000) and Journal of Business Research (2003). He has presented at conferences and run seminars in more than a dozen countries. In addition to his teaching in e-business, business strategy, and strategic management issues within the hospitality industry, Professor Phillips is an active e-business researcher. For example, he has recently completed a major study with Professor David Kirby on behalf of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), which was entitled “The Impact of Electronic Business on Accountants: A Shareholder Value Perspective”. This study has been published by the ACCA (Research Report No.76). In addition, Paul is currently working on two externally funded projects that are looking at the impact of digitization on organization structures and processes among FTSE 350 organization. Being a Professor of Hotel Management, the author is always looking to incorporate best practice e-business management into hospitality organizations. Paul is also involved in other research and consulting activities that focus on performance measurement and management and assisting organizations to implement their e-business strategy and achieve their goals. |
