auditory learners:  People who learn and remember best what they've heard. (p. 14)
data dump:  Getting all the information out of your head and onto a piece of paper, such as the back of the test sheet, before beginning a test. (p. 26)
forward thinking:  An approach that involves anticipating problems, thinking of ways to overcome them, and taking appropriate action to be well prepared for an upcoming challenge, such as an exam. (p. 5)
flashcards:  Note cards used to help the user learn or memorize information. A typical flashcard may have a word on one side and its definition on the other, or a question on one side with the answer on the other. (p. 15)
kinesthetic learners:  People who learn and remember best what they've done. (p. 14)
left-brain dominant:  Influenced largely by the left hemisphere of the brain; people who are left-brain dominant tend to be organized and analytical and can easily recognize patterns and categories. (p. 14)
locus of control:  Perceived place of control over your situation, either external (outside you) or internal (inside you). (p. 3)
mind map:  Drawings with key words circled and connected by line to show relationships among ideas. (p. 15)
recall:  Being able to remember information on demand, such as remembering a name that goes with a familiar face. (p. 21)
recitation:  Reading aloud to reinforce learning. This practice engages all three learning styles—visual because you see the material as you read the cards, kinesthetic because of the body actions required for you to speak, and auditory because you hear yourself speaking. (p. 16)
recognition:  Being able to identify a correct answer upon seeing it, such as spotting a familiar face in a crowd of strangers, or knowing the right answer from among several multiple-choice answers. (p. 21)
right-brain dominant:  Influenced largely by the right hemisphere of the brain; people who are right-brain dominant tend to be more intuitive and spontaneous. They like to use their imaginations to memorize and prefer seeing drawings and pictures and making mind maps. (p. 14)
syllabus:  A document that specifies what you'll be studying in a course, what your homework assignments will be, and the dates when you will take exams and tests. (p. 6)
visual learners:  People who learn and remember best what they've seen. (p. 14)
