active listening:  Listening in a way that involves you in the communication process, including interacting with the speaker verbally and/or nonverbally. Being an active listener helps you capture spoken information. (p. 3)
active reading:  Reading in a way that causes you to engage with the written material, including taking notes and asking yourself questions as you read. (p. 13)
cues:  Memory triggers used to help you remember important points from a lecture or book. (p. 24)
nonverbal communication:  Ways of communicating without words, including body language, expressions, tone, and inflection. (p. 8)
recitation:  The act of reinforcing learning by speaking the material out loud to yourself. (p. 15)
SQ3R Method:  A method for reading a textbook that involves five steps: survey, question, read, recite, and review. (p. 13)
