About the Team

Series Editor—Jon Doyle

Jon Doyle has led a varied 20-year career in post-secondary education, splitting time between instruction, curriculum development and program management. His work in student success began as coordinator of a large-scale development project seeking methods to improve student retention. These efforts included extensive analysis of student attrition data, conducting focus groups with students new to college as well as those nearing graduation, and interviews with students who had already dropped out of college. These experiences demonstrated to Jon that student success coursework is most effective when the instructor is able to deliver an active, engaging learning environment utilizing a highly integrated text, lesson plan, and related supporting course materials.

Jon is President of Curriculum Technology, a company focused on developing highly interactive curriculum and training content. His success in the classroom and with curriculum design flows from his passion for students and providing instructors with the best tools possible to enable them to deliver engaging course experiences.

Jon earned his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and later went on to earn an MBA. He is married with one child and is very happy to be living in San Diego, California.

Activities Editor—Heather Fullerton

Heather Fullerton was the pilot instructor for the Student Success curriculum at Heald College, San Francisco campus. In this role, she developed innovative and active lesson plans and in-class activities. Her success in facilitating an active instructional style, with an emphasis on collaborative exercises, led her to become the faculty mentor for new Student Success instructors, as well as a contributor to the materials they implemented in their own classes. In addition, her passion and commitment to empower students with the skills and strategies necessary to be successful academically, professionally, and personally positioned her as the lead Student Success instructor.

Heather has been teaching between three to five Student Success classes every quarter, which provides her with a unique opportunity to consistently be informed of the emerging and changing needs of incoming college students. This insight propels her to continually re-imagine and create current lesson plans and activities to ensure that any new population of students will receive the most pertinent and beneficial material for their success.

Heather earned her BA in English with an emphasis in Teaching from the University of California, Davis, and went on to obtain a MA in English Literature from Mills College.
