Observe an infant or toddler classroom. Record all of the experiences that supports perceptual development. Is one sense experienced more than another? Is it important to have a variety of perceptual experiences for the children? Why? Why not?

Reflect on your own perceptual development. Which sense do you use most? What sense is used least? How might this knowledge impact your interactions with very young children?

Imagine an infant and toddler environment and visualize a child with a sensory impairment in this environment. How might the child need to adapt? What might you want to include or change in the environment?

Create a list of toys typically found in an infant or toddler environment. Chart what sense(s) each toy will foster. Is there any sense that is neglected? Why might this be? What could you incorporate to foster a particular sense, that is lacking?
