Describe the stages caregivers often go through in their development. If you are a caregiver, are you in one of those stages? Are you saving children from their parents, educating parents to be as good as you are, or do you see parents as partners? Do you know anyone in a different stage than yours? If so, how is that person different from you in attitude and behavior?

Outline a presentation or conference you might have with a parent. If you’re not working with children and families at present, make up a child, family and situation. What would you include in the agenda for the conference? In what order might you share things? What might you consider regarding this particular parent and child?

Imagine that you work with someone who is of a culture different from your own, and that you have different views on child rearing and caregiving. What steps would you take to open up communication between the two of you?

Describe the process you might go through when confronted by a parent who is very angry with you. What might you say first? How might you prepare yourself? How might you handle this type of situation?

Explain the importance of the intake interview and service plan. What content is important to have included for both processes?
