Byron R. Hamilton Byron R. Hamilton received a BA in Education from the College of Advanced Education in Australia, and taught for several years in both private and public institutions. He earned an MA in Biblical Literature in Springfield, Mo., and is currently teaching EHR as part of the Continuing Education Department at Ozark Technical Community College in Springfield, Missouri. In 1997, Byron and his wife, Leesa, established MedTech Medical Management Systems, a medical billing and consulting company for both practice management software and electronic medical records. For the following decade they were involved with medical billing, supervision of healthcare information management, medical consultation, and training. Byron has been involved with electronic health record systems from the inception of the industry. In 2004, he launched Med-Soft National Training Institute, (MNTI), a software training group conducting onsite and online training on medical software, including Medisoft™ PMS and SpringCharts™ EHR, both nationally and internationally. He has written the product training manuals for several PMS and EHR programs and has authored numerous articles for professional magazines. MNTI, also provides strategies for healthcare organizations in the selection, implementation, and project management of electronic health records. Byron is a national speaker at career college workshops, business college associations, and medical professional groups. Mary Harper Dr. Harper obtained her MSN in Nursing Administration from the University of Florida and her PhD in Nursing from the University of Central Florida. Certified in Nursing Professional Development, Dr. Harper has participated in the development and implementation of electronic health records (EHR) for nursing in acute care settings. As the Director of Education for a three-hospital system, Dr. Harper collaborated with local colleges and schools of nursing to ensure that nursing students were educated on the use of the EHR in order to learn essential skills during their clinical rotations. In 2008, she presented a National League for Nursing workshop entitled “Student Use of the Electronic Health Record” during the national annual convention. In addition to her experience in the acute care setting, Dr. Harper has served as an instructor in pre-licensure Bachelor of Science of Nursing programs. She currently works for Western Governors University’s online pre-licensure program where she educates nursing staff to serve as clinical coaches for students. In her academic positions, Dr. Harper has encountered various hospital regulations concerning student use of the EHR and understands the need for nursing students to understand the basic concepts of using an EHR. Dr. Harper has published several articles in nursing journals and speaks nationally and internationally. She was on the work group that revised the Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards, published in 2010. Her current research includes student encounters with substandard nursing care in the clinical setting and emotional intelligence of nursing students and successful nurses. Paul Moore Paul B. Moore received a nursing diploma from St. John’s School of Nursing and a BSN from Southwest Baptist University. Paul obtained both Pediatric and Medical Surgical Certifications while working as an inpatient nurse for St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Moving out of the hospital, he worked as a Case Manager for both CCO, Inc. and CorVel Corporation and earned CCM Certification. Paul was the President of the Case Management Society of America Springfield and Greater Ozarks chapter for 2001–2002 and served as Board Member for the following year. Paul was promoted to the Branch Manager position of the CorVel Springfield, Missouri office. Paul was an Education Consultant and Certified Web Instructor for McKesson Corporation, teaching Advanced Clinicals and Scheduling for the Horizon Homecare software utilized by home health care and hospice agencies. In 2005 and 2006, Paul received the Group President award from McKesson. At the annual users’ conference he was selected as a speaker four consecutive years from 2005 to 2008. Paul was also Team Lead of the education department. Paul became certified in Inpatient Orders for the EPIC program while employed by Sisters of Mercy in 2008. He was a Credentialed Trainer for the program in 2009. |
