1. Determine what the most important issues are in the community of scholars and activists that concentrate on migration issues.

2. Surf over to the U.S. Census Bureau or your own national census and try to determine what areas of the country have seen the most in- and out-migration in the past decade. What factors are driving these movements?

3. Go to the Ellis Island website and click on the "Immigrant Experience" link. Then click on "Peopling of America" and read about the different phases of U.S. immigration. Did the push and pull factors for migrants to the U.S. change over time? How and why?
