"Henry Kissinger and Shuttle Diplomacy"
Introduction In this chapter you learned about U.S. foreign policy under President Richard Nixon. One of Nixon's most trusted associates was his national security adviser, Henry Kissinger. Kissinger played a major role in most of the foreign policy decisions of the time, including the United States 's attempt to end Arab-Israeli conflict and bring peace to the Middle East. Kissinger's diplomatic missions in the Middle East came to be known as "shuttle diplomacy" as he traveled, or "shuttled," back and forth between individual meetings with Middle Eastern leaders. Since Kissinger's missions, a number of U.S. diplomats have employed shuttle diplomacy in their attempts to bring about peace in the Middle East and other parts of the world.
