Introduction
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
Chrysler Building by Margaret Bourke-White

Margaret Bourke-White was a renowned photojournalist during the first half of the twentieth century. Her work was featured in LIFE and, in fact, her photograph graced the first cover of the magazine. During her career, she photographed World War II, the Soviet industrial revolution, and even Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi a few hours before his assassination in India. Bourke-White was born in New York City, where she lived most of her life. Her photograph of the Chrysler Building in New York is from 1931 and is housed in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
