Introduction
Students have learned how to use the writing process. In this lesson, they will test their knowledge of the prewriting and drafting phases of writing as they apply their new skills to writing a research paper.

Lesson Description
Students will identify key terms that relate to research paper writing as steps that occur during either the prewriting or drafting phases of the writing process.

Instructional Objectives

1. Students will be able to recall previously studied steps in the writing process and recognize how these steps can be applied to writing a research paper.
2. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the prewriting and drafting phases of the writing process.

Prewriting phase

• Create outline
• Find sources

• Develop topic

Drafting phase

• Develop thesis
