Chapter 6: Goals and Decision Making

Check Your Answers: After You Read

Section 6.1 Goals

  1. Setting a realistic goal can help prevent you from getting discouraged or giving up.
  2. A positive attitude can help you tackle a difficult job rather than put it off, and it can help you be flexible.
  3. Paragraph should include a short-term goal, which is a goal that can be reached in a short time. Resources used to reach the goal may include time, money, energy, knowledge, skills, family, or friends. Conclude with an explanation of how you would use each resource you listed. Sample: I want to buy a birthday present for my sister by Friday for her party on Saturday. The resources I need are my mom, time, and money. I need my mom to drive me to the gift shop. My mom and I both need time to do the shopping, and I need money to pay for the gift.
  4. Answers will vary depending on invention or event researched. List important individuals involved in the accomplishments and what goals were likely set and reached along the way.

Section 6.2 Decisions

  1. You leave the outcome to chance.
  2. Use good timing; consider the consequences; be willing to make mistakes and learn from them; seek advice when you need it; accept responsibility for your decisions.
  3. Answers will vary depending on the character and the decision. Refer to the feature on page 125. Paragraph should include details about the steps taken by the character to solve his or her problem. Discuss the outcome and evaluate the decision to determine what, if anything, you would do differently if you were faced with the same decision.
  4. Answers will vary depending on the leader selected. Presentation should include specifics about the leader chosen, the factors that lead to the decision, and the outcome of the decision.
