The Sound of Night

The author of “The Sound of Night” uses several onomatopoeic words. Onomatopoeic words are words that sound like the sound that they describe. For this activity, pick two animals or insects that the author does not include in her poem. In the box below, write the names of these animals or insects. Beneath each name, write down an onomatopoeic word that describes the noise that each animal or insect makes. For example, if you picked a bear, you might write down the word “growl” because it sounds like an actual growl.
