A Retrieved Reformation

“A Retrieved Reformation” uses colorful vocabulary and diction to tell the story of a reformed criminal. For example, read the sentence that O. Henry uses to describe one of Jimmy’s burglaries:

“Two weeks after that a patented, improved, burglar-proof safe in Logansport was opened like a cheese to the tune of fifteen hundred dollars, currency; securities and silver untouched.”

For this activity, pick a sentence from “A Retrieved Reformation” that uses interesting words and type it below. Beneath the sentence, make a list of any words in the sentence that you find confusing. When you are finished, look them up in a dictionary, and copy their definitions as well.
