1.

The Wise Old Woman

This story is written in the third-person. The narrator describes the story from outside of the action. How would the story be different if it were written in the first-person? For example, what if it was told from the son’s perspective? If this were the case, it might begin with a sentence like, “Many years ago, my village was governed by a cruel lord and I feared for the life of my mother.” For this exercise, re-tell the story from the perspective of one of the characters (the farmer, his mother, the cruel lord, or Lord Higa). When you are finished, share your story with a partner and talk about the differences in your stories.
