Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

Going Blind and from Ray Charles

In an early section, you learned about voice. Voice is an author’s or narrator’s distinctive use of language. For this exercise, write a short essay about the differences in voice in “Going Blind” and Ray Charles. How are the two narrator’s voices different? Do they use different words? Sentences of different lengths or styles? Do they convey different information? Which do you like reading better?
