Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

Dust Tracks on a Road

The story you read is part of a longer autobiography. An autobiography is the story that someone writes about his or her own life. Dust Tracks on a Road is the story of Zora Neale Hurston’s life. Imagine that you are going to write your autobiography. Where would you start? You wouldn’t need to start with your birth, for instance; you could start at any point in your life. For this activity, write the first paragraph of your autobiography. Try to give your reader a good description of where your story takes place and how you felt at the time.
