Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

Geraldine Moore the Poet

In the “Before You Read” section, you learned about making inferences about characters. When you make inferences about characters, you think about three things: what that character says and does; how other characters react to him or her; and what you know about people in your life. Based on these three things, what kind of inferences can you make about Mrs. Scott? What kind of person is she? Can you think of several adjectives that might describe her? Write a paragraph about what you think Mrs. Scott is like. Be sure to include both physical and psychological details—explain both how she looks and how she thinks about the world.
