Introduction
In this chapter you learned that Portugal was a pioneer in the European exploration of new trade routes. Portugal's Prince Henry was determined to pursue new trade routes, and this led to new discoveries and methods of exploration. Although he never boarded a ship in search of new adventures, Henry sponsored and encouraged the continuation of European discovery.
