The Stage and the School

Chapter 4: Acting

Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction

In this chapter, students have studied vocal acting. This self-assessment activity will allow students to practice speaking two different English stage dialects through study and practice.

Directions

Students will play the example of a word. After listening to the word and practicing it aloud, students will record their own attempts at pronouncing the word. Next, the students will play back their voices and compare them against the example voice, checking for proper pronunciation. They will then move on to the subsequent words, following the above directions for each, until they have practiced all 12 words.

Student Web Activity Answers

This is a self-assessment activity. Students may work alone or with a partner to complete this activity. However, peer review may help students discern between their pronunciations and proper pronunciations. The words and pronunciations are found on pages 148 and 149 in the textbook.
