Big Question Overview and Resources

Overview

When you're having a bad day, who do you turn to? When you're in trouble, who do you ask for help? You count on different people for different reasons. What do you expect from the people you count on?

Thinking about the people you count on will help you figure out what is important to you. When you read short stories you often learn about characters that depend on other people to help solve a problem. Stories usually have a conflict that the main character must overcome; you may recognize some of these conflicts in your own life. As you read short stories, notice the characteristics of characters that can be counted on. Do these characters remind you of someone you know? Do these characters remind you of yourself? Who counts on you?
