Web Quest

Introduction
People read for different reasons. Some people read to be entertained. Others read to accomplish a task. One of the most common reasons people read, however, is to learn about something new. When people decide to travel to another country, they often read about that country in order to plan their trip. By reading about a country, travelers will know which landmarks, parks, cities, and attractions they want to visit.

For this exercise, imagine you are a travel agent for an agency in the United States. Your client is a European family who has never been to the United States. The family is taking a month-long trip to the United States this August. Your task is to put together a travel itinerary for the family that will give them a thorough idea of all the United States has to offer. Try to balance the types of destination you suggest. Include amusement parks, national historical sites, museums, and outdoor exploration. This family is counting on you to make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so don't let them down!

Directions
Start with “Summer Vacation.” Click on the “Buzz” link, and then the “List of Questions” link. Read through the questions, and then go back to the home page and click on the “Road Trip” link. After you have finished with that section, go to “50 States.” On this site, you can click on individual states to read about state facts, along with places that interest tourists. Click on a state, and then scroll down to near the bottom of the page, where it says “Travel” (in the list). Click on the link that says “(State name).” Read about ten different states in various regions, and what they have to offer. Be sure to take notes on interesting locations as you read.

Once you have finished exploring the Web sites, write a travel itinerary with at least six places the family should visit in order to get an overall idea of the United States. For this itinerary, you will need to include every region in the country (New England, Middle Atlantic, South, Midwest , Southwest, and West). Go here to see which states fall into which regions: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0770177.html . Offer a short description of each destination and why you chose it.

Here's an example of how to write about a location or attraction:

1.Ellis Island
Location: New York
One place the family must be sure to see is the immigration museum on Ellis Island. From 1892 until 1954, thousands of immigrants came to America from Europe by way of Ellis Island. Because the immigrants came from so many different countries, Ellis Island was a common experience for vastly diverse groups of people.
