Chapter 6: Ethnic Geography: Threads of Diversity

Internet Exercises

1. Using the American Factfinder database at the U.S. Census Bureau, determine the ethnic and racial make-up of your community. You might start with the community "Fact Sheet" and then delve deeper into the Bureau's data.

2. Go to the Racial Residential Segregation Measurement Project at the University of Michigan Studies Center and read the description there. Then click on "Get Segregation Indexes" and follow the steps to make an Index of Dissimilarity table for your county. Then write up a short description of what that data says about the geography and ethnic composition of your county.
